Painting The Walls of Rajasthan – Fresco (Tour Code: IN/020) – Shekhawati or the land of Shekha is today known as The ‘Open-Air Art Gallery’ of Rajasthan. Here, a profusion of fresco painted on the walls and ceilings of palaces and the havelis of Jhunjhunu, Chirawa, Mandawa, Fatehpur, Dundlod and Nawalgarh, that demonstrate a wonderful fusion of art in life. Travel for 10/11 days in this colourful and vibrant region of Rajasthan. Of course you have an option to combine this tour with Agra to visit the Taj Mahal or just include a few more from our platter of tours to north India.
Itinerary
Day 01 Arrival day in Delhi
On arrival in Delhi, our representative will meet, assist and transfer you to the hotel. Check in at the hotel. Day up to lunch at leisure. Post lunch visit Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Qutub Minar. Back to hotel by evening. Overnight at the hotel in Delhi.
Day 02 Delhi / Jaipur
Breakfast at the hotel and post breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Jaipur (285 kms / 6 hrs). Arrive Jaipur and check in at the hotel. In the evening you can witness the Sound and Light Show at Amer Fort. Back to hotel by dinner and overnight at the hotel in Jaipur.
Day 03 Jaipur
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast today visit Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Amer Fort. Later in the evening take a tour of the local bazaar and back to hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Jaipur.
Day 04 Jaipur / Khetri / Jhunjhunu
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Khetri (16 kms / 4 hrs), We will visit Khetri Mahal, one of the finest examples of Shekhawati art and architecture and is known for the painting abetting the Raghunath Temple and the Bhopalgarh Fort. Some prominent sites here are Panna Lal Shah ka Talab (water tank), Rama Krishna Mission, Sukh Mahal and Hari Singh Temple. Further driving another 60 km will reach us to our hotel in Jhunjhunu. Check in and overnight at the hotel in Jhunjhunu.
Day 05 Jhunjhunu – Chirawa – Jhunjhunu
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast visit Chirawa (15 kms). Here you can see Raj Bahaudur Tulsian Haveli, Nemani Haveli, Mangal Chand Dalmia Haveli, Kakrania well. Back to hotel by lunch. Post lunch visit some notable havelis of Jhunjhunu which include Nar Singh Das Tibrewal, Ishwar Das Modi, Mohan Das Modi and Khaitan Haveli. Later back to hotel by evening and overnight at the hotel in Jhunjhunu.
Day 06 Jhunjhunu / Mandawa
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Mandawa (35 kms / 1 hr). Check in at the hotel in Mandawa and later we will visit Chokhani Haveli, Saraf Haveli, Goenka Haveli and Ladia Haveli. The painting style includes decoration with gold or silver leaf and small mirrors. Travel to Mandawa is extremely rewarding for art lovers. Back to hotel by evening and overnight at the hotel in Mandawa.
Day 07 Mandawa – Fatehpur – Mandawa
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast today we will drive to Fatehpur (30 kms /1 hr). The frescoes of this region are unrivaled specially the ones on the walls of the Devra and Singhania Havelis. These Havelis splendidly combine Indian and Western styles with Japenese Mount Fuji’s paintings. You can also explore Ram Gopal Haveli, Jalan Haveli and Bharatia Haveli. Back to hotel by evening. Back to Mandawa and overnight at the hotel in Mandawa.
Day 08 Mandawa / Dundlod / Nawalgarh
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast check out from the hotel and drive to Nawalgarh (35 kms / 1 hrs). En route visit Dundlod – a calm village clustered with havelis, forts and baolis (wells) that have maintained the traditional outlook of this small land. You can explore Dundlod Fort and famous Goenka Haveli. The magnificent sight of the beautifully painted havelis is a treat to the eyes. Later continue your drive to Nawalgarh. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Nawalgarh.
Day 09 Nawalgarh
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast visit Anandilal Poddar Haveli, the Jodhraj Patodia Haveli, Bansidar Bhagat Haveli, Chokhani Haveli, the Aath (eight) Haveli complex, Chhawchhariya Haveli, Murarka Haveli, Hem Raj Kulwal Haveli, Bhagton Ki Haveli, and Khedwal Bhavan. These havelis are mansions that boast of the beautifully carved wooden gates and the painted walls. The ornate iron and brass fittings reveal the affluence of the owners of the haveli. The marvelous murals have been painted on both the sides of the walls. The paintings were further decorated with small pieces of mirror, gold and silver leaves. Back to hotel by evening. Overnight at the hotel in Nawalgarh.
Day 10 Nawalgarh / Jaipur / Delhi / Home
Breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast check-out from the hotel and drive to Jaipur Airport (150 kms / 3 hrs) in time to connect your afternoon flight to Delhi (1 hr).
