Prince Albert Edward’s India Tour

Prince Albert Edward’s India Tour

Prince Albert Edward, also known as Bertie, the Prince of Wales (who later became King Edward VII), the eldest son of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, travelled to India (as well as Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal) in 1875, arriving in Bombay on the 8th of November 1875, visiting twenty-one cities altogether. The purpose of this royal visit was primarily to connect more deeply and to gain knowledge about the history, culture, and inhabitants of the empire. This was more of a study tour that was an initiative by Queen Victoria and Prince Edward particularly to establish better diplomatic ties with Indian rulers. During this tour, Prince Edward attended many banquets arranged in his honor during his time in India. Edward was exceedingly excited about this visit, upon arriving in Bombay (currently Mumbai) he remarked that it had been his long-held dream to visit India. Prince Edward left India on 13th of March 1876. → Read Related Article
