Eighth Bastion – Cochin
The new boutique hotel from CGH group in the centre of Fort Cochin. 2 minutes walk from the beach. The hotel only opened in 2012 and is a renovated heritage house in Fort Cochin, just next to beach and opposite to Thakur House. Luxury boutique at excellent price. First built by Portuguese and later strengthened by Dutch. The hotel built around a central courtyard with chic dark swimming pool has 19 bedrooms all styled in classic boutique way with tessalated tiling and unusual furniture.
Eighth Bastion is CGH Earth’s newest addition to Fort Cochin. Opened in 2013, it mixes a laid back and contemporary feel with colonial flourishes. The hotel takes its name from the fact that the VOC, or the Dutch East India Company’s forts all had seven bastions, so this property is seen as the eighth of Cochin.
Being a small property, Eighth Bastion retains an intimate atmosphere and the building has high walls so also has a very private feel. There is a lovely swimming pool in the hotel’s courtyard, which guests can dine around.
Built in a style that combines the contemporary with the Colonial, the 8th Bastion is located not far from the many historical and cultural highlights of Cochin inlcuding the 15th century Chinese fishing nets. The decor is both colonial yet contemporary and the property offers 19 spacious rooms, some of which overlook the Arabian Sea.
Accommodation : 17 double and 02 twin bedded rooms with balconies, some of which offer views of the sea. A room is also available for travellers with disabilities.
